The Process
The Process of Becoming a Foster or Adoptive Parent
Becoming a foster or adoptive parent is a meaningful and structured process designed to prepare families for success.
1. Initial Inquiry and Orientation
Prospective families attend an information session to learn about foster care, adoption, the needs of children in care, and the expectations of families.
2. Application and Background Screening
Families complete a formal application and undergo background checks, home safety inspections, and reference checks to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
3. Training
Families participate in required training that covers:
- Trauma-informed care
- Child development
- Behavior management
- Cultural sensitivity
- Working with biological families
- Permanency planning
4. Home Study
A licensed professional conducts interviews and home visits to assess readiness, strengths, and areas for growth. The home study ensures families are prepared emotionally, practically, and relationally.
5. Licensing and Placement
Once approved, families become licensed foster parents. Our team carefully matches children with families based on needs, strengths, and compatibility.
6. Ongoing Support
After placement, families receive continuous guidance, supervision, and resources to support stability and permanency.For families pursuing adoption, we provide additional guidance through the legal process, court proceedings, and finalization.
